Carriages and Countryside

To escape the busy streets, shopping malls, crowded areas we went out of the city and experienced the Swiss countryside. Giswil is part of Obwalden (a province in Switzerland) and it is placed on the southern end of Lake Sarnen. This municipality has an area of 85.9 square kilometers. 35.9% is used for agricultural purposes and the rest is forested areas about 53.3%. Only a portion of the land (2.2%) is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (8.7%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).

We were greeted by a talkative and friendly chauffeur named Hans. Together with his buddy, he toured us around in this village with a horse carriage. He showed us the traditional farmhouses, neighborhood, Swiss hamlets, gardens, school and walking trails. We went to the wooden bridge where a view of the non-snow glacier can be seen. Our tour director briefed us that bridge has been restored a couple times due to flooding. Fresh air and so beautiful sceneries!
