A Walk at Lake Katherine

Travel Date:

Thursday, 11th June 2015

I am a home buddy, but I also like to stay outside and come back to nature. At Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Gardens, I've enjoyed our leisure walk with my family. Well, it was our chance as well to bring my nephew and niece to get in touch with nature, enjoy the fresh air, see some wildlife and a family bonding moment.

This 85-acre park is a 10-minute drive from home and managed by a non-profit organization. It has a 10-acre lake surround with woodlands, prairie, wetlands, and gardens. Our walk started from the trail towards the man-made Waterfall. We sat in one of the benches provided near the fall and I've felt relaxed as I hear the water splashing.

Then, we headed towards the Nature Center and Auditorium where you can see some displays of the preserved wildlife. It's like a mini-museum. My niece told me that she had visited the center during their school field trip. From the center, we continued our journey to Canal lookout, herb and butterfly garden. We were trying to walk along the Lake loop which about 1 mile. It was really a good walk. I noticed there are tree and bench dedications to honor loved ones as we walked along the Arboretum. These dedications are placed nicely on trees and benches overlooking the lake.

Lake Katherine is a wonderful place where you can jog, walk your dog, hike, or you can just simply enjoy the beautiful gardens, wildlife, and the lake alone or with your partner or the whole family. According to John Muir an environmental philosopher:

In every walk with Nature one receives far more than he seeks.
