Arc de Triomphe

Travel Date:

Friday, 30th May 2014

The Arc de Triomphe was built to honour those who battled and spared their lives for France during the French revolution and Napoleonic Wars. Design was mostly inspired by the Arch of Titus ―a marble triumphal arch in Rome contributed by 2 architects: Jean Chalgrin on on 15 August 1806 and completed by Jean-Nicolas Huyot after Chalgrin died on 1811. It took 30 years to built the arc and was inaugurated on 29 July 1836. No wonder why it's very detailed! Aside from the famous Eiffel Tower and Louve Musuem, you should never miss to see this visibly amazing structure.

Did you know that the Arc de Triomphe is the second largest triumphal arch in the world (next after Kim II Sung monument in Pyongyang, North Korea).
